The Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology were established to provide quality education in Hotel Management and is entirely tuned with the needs of the hospitality industry. The program is approved by the AICTE and is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology.

To keep the students updated with the advancements in hospitality industry, the department organizes regular workshops and seminars inviting eminent national and international experts.

Assessing individual aptitude the department also encourages students to develop self or cooperative employment projects or to go for higher professional studies.

It has been observed that apart from Hotels, Restaurants, Other eateries, Canteens of Corporate, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Guest Houses, Health Spas etc., hotel management students are being appointed in large numbers in other service sectors like Banks, Airlines, Railways, Cruise ships, Central & state Tourism Corporations, Call Center, Multiplexes, Shopping malls, etc. Apart from service sector companies, other large companies and multinational companies have started recruiting hotel management graduates and hotel managers particularly for jobs related to customer contact and marketing.

The Department is having excellent academic and placement records.

Admission is offered for BHMCT

Admission is offered for BHMCT through JEHOM examination.

Training and Placement

Hotel Management and Catering Technology Department its own Training and Placement Cell which maintains a symbiotic, vibrant and purposeful relationship with the Hospitality Organizations across the nation. The team comprises of training experts and experienced academicians. Paid Internship programs are organized in premier properties around the country. An internship program (also known as Industrial Training Program) is considered as a pre-professional experience that allows a student to gain hands-on experience and academic credit at the same time. It is compulsory for the students to undergo the training program as a part of the curriculum. Internship placements are for 22 weeks where a student gains valuable work experience and the opportunity to feel the pulse of the industry. A student is exposed to all the major functional departments of a hotel during this training. The Training and placement cell takes care of the complete process from arrangement of interview till the placement of student. The department also remains in regular touch with the organizations to know the whereabouts of the student during the period of training.

After successfully completing Hotel Management degree, job opportunities remain open in various sectors like Hotels, Restaurants, Airlines, Cruise lines, Hospitals, Corporate House, Industrial and Institutional Canteen etc. Many students make their career as entrepreneur. The students of SIT are placed through Campus Recruitment program. Till date the department has maintained the reputation for arranging QUALITY PLACEMENT for the students. Strong liaison and bond is in place with top chain of hotels in India and abroad like Taj, Hyatt, Clarks, Holiday Inn, Radisson, Ramada, Majorda and other similar reputed organizations.
