Water treatment is a process to remove existing contaminants in used water or raw water from the river to reduce the concentration of such contaminants by treating water for solid separation using physical and chemical process. The 3rd year students of Civil Engineering Department, Siliguri Institute of Technology completed an Industrial visit in water treatment at Water Treatment Plant, Fulbari, Siliguri under the Public Health Department, Govt. of West Bengal on 04.05.2022. The raw water which is supplied to the water treatment plant comes from TEESTA RIVER is subjected to a series of processes that involves Aeration, treatment with chemical coagulation alum, Flocculation, Sedimentation, Filtration, Disinfection to destroy pathogens, Chlorination and finally Storage. This visit helped the students for the better understanding of the industrial water treatment plant, an idea of demand and supply of water for a city and an exposure to the treatment procedure as well as a firsthand knowledge of the process.
